Every yard would love to have a Rustic Log Squirrel House, made with Oak or Pine logs cut from the diameter of the tree for the ends and logs cut length wise for the sides. They are then fastened with screws and staples. The logs come from our property we have both oak and pine in several sizes.

Arnold builds the squirrel houses in our shop along with several other wood crafted projects that will be coming up soon. So please be on the lookout for all that’s coming.

We have two kinds of squirrels in our yard one is gray and brown We call him Willie the tree squirrel and the gray and white one we call her Maud the ground squirrel.

Our squirrels are most active in the winter months that is they’re mating season. Baby squirrels are born in the early spring. They can have two litters just depending on the climate and location.

In the summer our squirrels are active for about three to four hours in the early morning after the sunrises they head for their houses, then we don’t see them until about two hours before dark. You will rarely see a squirrel after dark.

Our squirrels love our bird feeder and can be a real pest. We feed them sunflower seeds, peanuts, animal crackers, and any kind of fruit. They love the strawberry patch, along with a block of corn and honey.

I like to listen to their chirps when they are communicating with each other. another strange sound they make is when they sharpen their teeth on dog bone they have found.

Our squirrels can be pests at times but, we enjoy watching them and look forward to building and making plans for more Rustic Log Squirrel Houses.

I think then it is time to start on some plans for a Rustic Log Bird House. Please let us If you have any Ideas.
